ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hi! I’m Kevin.

I’m Kevin M. Cordeiro, the author and illustrator behind Hermey the Alpaca. For about 20 years, alpacas were part of my everyday life in Rhode Island—and the real Hermey helped inspire the stories I now share with young readers.

What began with real farm moments grew into picture-book adventures about courage, friendship, kindness, curiosity, and the funny things that happen when a little alpaca explores the world around him.

From alpaca life to children’s books

Living around alpacas gave me a front-row seat to their personalities—the curiosity, the stubborn moments, the gentle nature, and plenty of unexpected comedy. Those everyday experiences became the heart of Hermey’s world.

I wanted children to meet a character who could be brave and nervous, silly and thoughtful, adventurous and unsure—all the things kids can feel themselves. Hermey gives me a way to tell those stories with warmth and a little farmyard fun.

Creating Hermey’s world

I create Hermey’s stories with young readers in mind, turning familiar childhood experiences into adventures children can recognize. Trying something new, feeling afraid, celebrating a holiday, wandering beyond the familiar, or discovering that things aren’t always as scary as they seem can all become a Hermey story.

The books are written for children ages 3–8, but I also love creating free coloring pages, puzzles, and printable activities that let families, teachers, and libraries keep the fun going after story time.

Books for little readers with big feelings

Whether Hermey is facing his first haircut, heading out on a holiday adventure, or discovering what lies beyond the gate, I want children to come away smiling—and maybe feeling a little more ready for their own next adventure.
